GWO BASIC TECHNICAL TRAINING (BTT)

The GWO Basic Technical Training is designed to provide wind industry technicians with the fundamental technical knowledge and practical skills required to begin working with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and installation systems in wind turbines.
The training is suitable for participants with no previous technical experience, as well as technicians who already have some general knowledge but need to understand how these systems are applied within the wind industry. Through a combination of theoretical instruction, practical exercises and realistic technical tasks, participants become familiar with wind turbine components, safe working procedures, technical documentation and the correct use of tools and equipment.
The BTT modules prepare participants for further company-specific and turbine-specific training. They provide the foundation needed to carry out basic technical tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician. Completion of a BTT module does not, by itself, authorise a participant to perform technical work independently.
The GWO Basic Technical Training Standard is divided into seven specialised modules. Each module can be completed separately, while certain modules may also be delivered together as part of a combined training programme. BTT training records are enduring qualifications and do not have a standard expiry date.

BTTM

BTT Mechanical

Introduces the main mechanical components and systems of a wind turbine. Participants learn about mechanical hazards, bolted and welded connections, gearboxes, braking, yaw, cooling and lubrication systems, while practising the safe use of handheld tools.

BTTB

BTT Bolt Tightening

Develops the skills needed to perform bolt torquing and bolt tensioning using electrical and hydraulic tools. The module focuses on task preparation, equipment setup, correct tightening procedures, safe positioning, quality control and post-task inspection.

HEBS

BTT Hazardous Energies Basic Safety

Introduces the risks associated with electrical, mechanical and pressure-fluid energy. Participants learn the basic principles of hazardous energy control, Lockout-Tagout, safe behaviour around isolated systems and how to respond appropriately to hazardous energy situations.

BTTE

BTT Electrical

Provides an introduction to electricity and the electrical systems found in wind turbines. Participants learn about electrical hazards, circuits, components, sensors and measuring instruments, including the safe and correct performance of basic electrical measurements.

BTTI-M

BTT Installation Mechanical

Introduces the mechanical activities involved in wind turbine installation. Participants learn about installation environments, component handling and storage, lifting operations, preparation, pre-assembly, assembly and the basic principles of mechanical completion.

BTTH

BTT Hydraulic

Covers the basic principles of hydraulic systems used in wind turbines. Participants become familiar with pumps, valves, actuators, accumulators, hoses, sensors, hydraulic diagrams and pressure measurement while learning how to work safely around pressurised systems.

BTTI-E

BTT Installation Electrical

Provides an introduction to the electrical activities performed during wind turbine installation. The module covers component preparation, cable handling and connection, electrical completion, hydraulic completion, external generators and preparation for handover to commissioning.
