The GWO BTT Hazardous Energies Basic Safety module prepares participants to act safely while working in the vicinity of hazardous energy sources within the wind industry.
Wind turbines contain several forms of hazardous energy, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal and gravitational energy. Through theoretical instruction and practical scenarios, participants learn how to recognise these hazards, respect established safety controls and seek guidance whenever a task is outside their role or level of authorisation.
Key Skills Include:
Recognising different forms of hazardous energy
Understanding the basic principles of hazardous energy control
Identifying isolation points and controlled work areas
Understanding roles and responsibilities related to energy control
Applying Lockout-Tagout principles as an ordinary person
Recognising mechanical hazards and stored energy
Recognising electrical hazards and approach boundaries
Understanding risks associated with pressure fluids
Following permits, work instructions and safe systems of work
Responding appropriately to hazardous energy incidents
Stopping work and seeking guidance when conditions are unsafe
This module is intended for personnel who may work near systems or equipment containing hazardous energies, including workers who are not authorised to establish or modify energy isolations.
The duration may be reduced to 2 hours when every participant already holds valid GWO BTT Mechanical, Electrical and Hydraulic training records.
