GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART)

The GWO Advanced Rescue Training is designed for wind industry technicians who may be required to perform complex rescue operations within a wind turbine environment. Building on the fundamentals of Working at Height, First Aid and Manual Handling, this training equips participants with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to safely rescue an injured person in challenging and confined areas of a turbine.

Throughout the course, participants learn how to assess emergency situations, select the appropriate rescue strategy, and use industry-standard rescue equipment effectively. The training focuses heavily on realistic scenarios, ensuring that technicians can respond efficiently under pressure while maintaining the highest safety standards.

The GWO Advanced Rescue Training is divided into four specialised modules, each addressing different areas of the wind turbine and different rescue scenarios.

1. ART-H: Hub, Spinner and Inside Blade Rescue

Focused on rescue operations in confined spaces such as the hub, spinner, and blade. Participants learn to safely extract and evacuate injured persons using proper rigging techniques and effective teamwork.

2. ART-N: Nacelle, Tower and Basement Rescue

Covers rescue scenarios throughout the turbine structure, including nacelle, tower, and basement. Emphasis is placed on evacuation from height, enclosed spaces, and complex internal layouts.

3. SART-H: Single Rescuer: Hub, Spinner and Inside Blade Rescue

Prepares participants to perform rescues alone in hub and blade environments, focusing on independent decision-making and safe execution of rescue techniques.

4. SART-N: Single Rescuer: Nacelle, Tower and Basement Rescue

Develops the ability to carry out solo rescue operations within the nacelle and tower, including controlled evacuation and safe handling of injured persons in restricted areas.
