GWO Service Lift User Training
(SLU)
The GWO Service Lift User Training module is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely and correctly use service lifts within wind turbine generators (WTGs).
The training focuses on the safe transportation of personnel and equipment using service lifts, covering normal operations as well as emergency situations. It applies to commonly used lift types and guiding systems and is carried out in accordance with manufacturers’ manuals, approved procedures, and known hazards.
Through a combination of theoretical instruction, practical exercises, and scenario-based training, participants learn how to perform pre-use inspections, operate the lift safely, manage risks within lift danger zones, and respond appropriately to faults or emergency situations.
Key skills include:
-
Understanding the role and responsibilities of a Service Lift User within a WTG.
-
Identifying hazards and risks associated with lift operation, including dropped objects and danger zones.
-
Performing pre-use inspections in accordance with lift manuals and checklists.
-
Safely operating service lifts for the transport of personnel and equipment.
-
Applying correct safety measures inside the lift, during travel, and within the lift travel range.
-
Responding appropriately to faults, alarms, and abnormal lift behaviour.
-
Performing emergency descent and evacuation from the lift when required.
-
Applying human factors principles, safe work practices, and effective use of PPE.
This module is essential for personnel who are required to use service lifts in onshore and offshore wind turbine environments, ensuring lifts are operated safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GWO standards.
Duration: 4.5 hours (1/2 day)
Validity: Lifetime
